July 4th Celebrations

Our July 4th was pretty low-key this year since Dan was still recovering from his recent nasal septum surgery. We had a family get-together at my parent's home in Onion Creek, with all the essentials for good eating - hamburgers, hotdogs, potato salad, watermelon, Carla's famous bean dip, and some AWESOME cheesecake bites! The kids loved playing outside on the slip-and-slide down the big hill, while we were happy to relax inside (much cooler). It was a big day for Tyler as he was officially two months old! These past two months have flown by so fast, I can't believe how big he is getting. Speaking of size, Tyler had his two month check-up on July 3rd and the doctor confirmed just how big he really is. Tyler weighed 14lb.3oz.- that's the 99th percentile! Tyler is our first chunky baby (both Natalie & Nathan were long skinny babies), and I am absolutely loving his chub. :)

We watched the Round Rock fireworks from the park behind our house, we could just barely see them above the treetops. It was enough though because Natalie and Nathan loved it and they got to see all the fireworks our neighbors were setting off. Nathan got a bit confused and kept calling them "firetruck works" which was so funny that we quit trying to correct him. I'm sure he'll figure it out by next July 4th.

So the other night we were eating dinner together and Nathan looked out at the park behind our house and said, "Want go see firetruck works!" At first we weren't sure what he was saying, but after repeating it another 5 times we realized what he wanted. The funny thing is Natalie understood Nathan sooner than Dan or I did and she told him, "Nathan, firetrucks are only on streets driving to help people that are on fire." I find it hilarious to listen to their conversations now that Nathan can talk - they don't always understand one another but that never stops them. So we ate dinner and listened to Nathan wanting to see more fireworks while Natalie explained to him why he couldn't see any firetrucks in the park behind our house. It's these simple things that keep me smiling. :)

This is a good thing to do. For one thing, I can remember Anna's age and anniversay. But most of all I can see a really great family.
